Project Overview
In collaboration with NPAK Energy Limited, HASCC is contributing to the construction of a 3.3 MWp solar power plant in Sost, Upper Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, incorporating a 2 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project is being developed to help address Hunza’s persistent electricity shortage and expand the region’s renewable energy infrastructure. Once operational, the Sost solar plant is expected to begin supplying electricity by February 2027 and increase Hunza’s total installed solar generation capacity from 3.9 MWp to 7.2 MWp, complementing the existing solar power installations at Duiker and Nasirabad. The project forms part of NPAK Energy’s broader clean-energy programme in Hunza, being implemented in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation and the European Union Delegation in Pakistan. Alongside the Sost solar project, the programme includes the rehabilitation of the 3 MW Misgar Hydropower Plant, construction of a new 2 MW hydropower project, and further studies for potential larger-scale hydropower developments. The Sost project represents an important step toward expanding clean energy generation in Upper Hunza and supporting a more reliable and diversified electricity system for the region.
